Various Reading Groups Bring Variety
Plainfield Elementary School first graders in Ms. Deanne Riportella's class stay busy in one of three reading groups.
The reading groups are divided up into the "green group," the "blue group" and the "red group."
On this particular day the green group was working on reading lessons in the application "i-Ready" on their iPads.
The blue group was working on vowels and "word ladders."
The students in the blue group sat together at a table and were given clues as to what word and vowel they needed to complete sentences, with each word building upon the next.
The red group continued to work on an animal research project they had started the week before.
The students in the red group sat on the carpet with Ms. Riportella and added information they had researched about the animals.
One student was researching information about kangaroos, another was learning about turtles, while another was studying elephants.
Some of the things the students researched included the animal's diet, their life cycle, as well as their appearance.
When the students were done with their research, they glued a picture of their animal to their research project.
