The second graders in Ms. Alexa Menolascino's PE class at Plainfield Elementary School had a fun time exercising with hula hoops this week!

The class began with one of the students leading them in their morning stretches.

After they were warmed up they gathered on the floor to learn about that morning's activity.

Ms. Menolascino explained to the students that she would be playing music and when the music stopped she would call out a color and the students would have a few seconds to find that color hula hoop and stand inside it.

She told the students that they had the freedom to walk, jog, skip or hop around the gym while the music was playing.

If a student didn't make it into a hoop in time they would be "out" and would have to sit on the sideline until the next round.

To make the game a bit more challenging, Ms. Menolascino removed a hoop from the floor after each round, which meant more students had to share hoops and they were more difficult to find.

In addition to being physical, the lesson encouraged each student's listening and teamwork skills.

For instance, the students helped one another by calling out where the different colored hula hoops were if one was filled up.

The class had a fun morning exercising and working together!
