Learning All About Our National Anthem

Fourth graders in Ms. Stephanie Wubbena's music class at Plainfield Elementary School learned all about "The Star Spangled Banner" this week.

There were various stations set up around the classroom, ranging from activities about why the song was written, information on who Francis Scott Key was, the meaning of the lyrics and a crossword puzzle.

The students formed into groups of three and were each assigned a station.

They had seven minutes to complete a station before they had to rotate and move on to another one.

One of the stations had students assemble the lyrics of the anthem by putting them in the correct order line by line.

At another station students were tasked with writing a poem that was at least four lines long about America, since the national anthem was first written as a poem.

The students had fun learning all about our country's national anthem and are well-prepared next time they have to sing it!
