First Day First-Grader Feelings

A young boy wearing a black and white striped shirt is intently focused on writing or drawing on a piece of paper on a table in front of him, surrounded by various school supplies.

Plainfield Elementary first graders in Ms. Stephanie Hernandez's class spent time learning and talking about feelings, especially their feelings on the first day of school.

The students were each given a post-it note and were asked to place it on Ms. Hernandez's lesson board above the feelings they had at that moment.

Ms. Hernandez then read them a book about all different types of emotions.

After the book the class talked about what the characters in the book were feeling.

The students then went back to their desks and worked together as a class to color different sections of a feelings worksheet.

Students volunteered to go up to the lesson board to count how many students were feeling each emotion.

At the end of the lesson the students enjoyed a quick two-minute "Macarena" dance party!
