Beginning Band Collaboration
Students from Forest, Orchard Place, Plainfield and South have been working all year in the beginning band, learning the fundamentals of their chosen instruments.
This week the students gathered together to prepare for their end of the year concert that will be on Thursday, May 16th.
According to Band Director Ms. Stephanie Strzalka, the students were rehearsing the pieces "Star Wars," "High Adventure," and "Evening at the Symphony."
Next week the 5th grade students will be performing for the 4th graders at their schools during a recruitment assembly to help to peak the interest of the 4th graders so that they will hopefully choose to join the 5th grade band/orchestra program next year.
Strzalka said these students have been playing their instruments for only 7 months so far and they have come a long way since their last concert in December!
Recently District 62 purchased a brand new instrument inventory for the beginning band/orchestra program which is very exciting for the students and their families in the district.
Strzalka said the music department is thrilled that the district has made such an important investment into the band/orchestra program, as it will allow for even more students to be able to participate in the instrumental music program here in D62.
"Music is such an important subject as it teaches students valuable skills such as hard work, creativity, perseverance, and collaboration," Strzalka said.
